From September 1 2017 to February 29 2020, School Centre Nova Gorica has been one of the three project partners in the project entitled “Improving the ecological status of the Koren Brook and the estuary of the Soča River into the Adriatic Sea – CONA”. It is part of the Interreg Italy-Slovenia programme. The other two project partners are Public utility Vodovodi in kanalizacija Nova Gorica and IrisAqua Gorizia from Italy.
The main objective of the project is to improve the ecological status of the aquatic ecosystem and the protection of biodiversity for sustainable development. The project focuses on the basin of the Koren Brook that is part of the Soča River Basin and flows into the Adriatic Sea in the protected area of the “Isola della Cona” in Italy. All interventions in the basin of the Koren Brook are aimed at improving the quality of water, thus improving both the conservation status of habitats and species. The main transboundary effects will be reflected in the development and installation of cross-border weather stations, the installed equipment and the revitalization of the Koren Brook, which will have a direct impact on the Soča River Basin and the nature reserve. It is a great opportunity for joint planning, with a particular focus on the sustainable management of water resources in order to prevent natural and environmental risks.
